PROCEDURES FOR OBTAINING A NEW RADIO EQUIPMENT LICENSE STAGE 1:SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FOR RADIO EQUIPMENT LICENSE; Payment for application fee of RO 50/= for each frequency assignment. Payment should be made in advance and is not refundable. A formal letter shall be enclosed with the application form for the use and registration of any radio communications equipment stating the purpose of use. The required use shall be matched with the uses of the national frequency allocations table of the Sultanate of Oman. TRA will ensure that the requested frequency assignment/assignments do not interfere with the Licensed frequency assignments and will start national and international co-ordinations (if needed). Upon the successful completion of steps 3-4, an advisory note of the frequency assignment registration and spectrum utilization fees will be sent for payment. Copy of fee deposit vouchers certified by the bank shall be sent to TRA.
STAGE 2:OBTAINING TYPE APPROVAL; Following the payment of the fees for frequency assignment registration and spectrum utilization, the radio equipment to be licensed will be ensured to have obtained type approval. If no type approval is obtained, the applicant will be required to obtain it by either of the following ways:
STAGE 3: PROVISIONAL APPROVAL; After stages 1 and 2, TRA will issue its provisional approval of the type of the required equipment as well as the frequency and the service before importing any radio equipment. No provisional approval will be issued before payment of the fees for frequency assignment registration and spectrum utilization has been .made. Such provisional approval shall be temporary and valid for three months only and shall not be recognised for the operation of the equipment unless the radio license is issued. On importation of the equipment, a customs release letter may be obtained after filling the necessary form.
FINAL STAGE; After releasing the equipment from the customs authorities, the serial number/numbers of the equipment shall be submitted to the TRA to obtain a radio equipment licence or licenses. If equipment is intended to be mounted on the vehicle, the car registration number is required. After receiving the information required above, the radio equipment license will be issued to user with effect from the date of the equipment’s entry into the Omani border. . Radio equipment license shall be issued solely by TRA and shall be renewed annually while observing compliance with the license conditions, provisions of the Telecommunication Regulatory Act issued by the Royal Decree No. 30/2002 and all the Executive Regulations and the Decisions and Guidelines issued by TRA.
