Mobile phone SIM locking is the practice whereby through which handsets are locked in order to limit their use to accessing services provided only by the original service provider from which the mobile services were bought. It is a common feature in mobile service offers around the world. We expect that it may have a key impact on the development of the mobile market in the Sultanate especially for new mobile resale entrants and consumers. Keeping this in view, the Authority is considering formulating a regulatory position in this regard. i.e. whether to allow the mobile SIM lock or not.
