Invitation to Bid for a Third Licence to Provide Public Mobile Telecommunications Services

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority ("TRA"), Sultanate of Oman (“Sultanate”), announces the commencement of the process to award a third Licence for the Installation, Operation, Maintenance and Exploitation of a Telecommunications System to Provide Public Mobile Telecommunications Services in the Sultanate.

The TRA considers that the enhancement of competition in the mobile telecommunications services market will be of significant benefit to consumers and to the economy of the Sultanate, and is consistent with the General Policy of the Government as well the TRA’s mandate to promote market entry under the Telecommunications Regulatory Act.

TRA Oman Hosts RIPE NCC IPv6 Workshop / RIPE NCC Members Gather in Oman

Muscat, 28 September 2016: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in Oman, in cooperation with RIPE NCC, held a series of IPv6 technical training workshops from 26–28 September 2016 at TRA’s headquarters in Muscat, Oman. Staff from eight private and governmental bodies participated in the workshops.

Taking full advantage its time in the country, the RIPE NCC also held a member lunch for its Omani members alongside the training on Sunday 25 September. The meeting was an open format for members to share ideas and information as well as resolve any ongoing technical issues with the RIPE NCC.

TRA Hosts IPV6 Workshop

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) organized an IPV6 training workshop in cooperation with RIPE Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC), a Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia. The workshop held at the TRA headquarters during the period from 26 - 28 September 2016.

The workshop aims at adopting administrative and technical coordination between the RIPE NCC and the concerned parties, such as TRA, ITA, internet service providers and other parties, so as to ensure that IPV6 is keeping pace with the developments in the internet services across the globe which is witnessing a huge technological and technical revolution.

Joint Consultation Event for the Review of the General Policy and Regulation of Postal Services in Oman


Pursuant to the Postal Services Regulatory Law No. 71/2012, the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) held a joint consultation with key stakeholders to review the general policy and certain postal regulatory legislations that were drafted by specialized international consulting firms. The meeting took place at TRA building at the airport heights.

Presented at the meeting were representatives from the concerned government entities, postal services providers and some beneficiaries of the postal services.

Supporting SME’s operations in the Telecom Sector, TRA launches partnership opportunities for SMEs


TRA took part in a workshop organized by the Public Authority for SME Development (Riyada) in collaboration with Microsoft Oman to familiarize SMEs and entrepreneurs with the most advanced technological innovations and their role in equipping such enterprises with the necessary tools to increase their productivity and efficiency and hence to improve their competitive edge.

A number of contracts and purchases were addressed during the workshop by telecom sector partners such as Omantel, Oreedoo and OBC. This event is part of a series of partnership opportunities designed to help award around 10% of contracts and purchases by large enterprises in Oman.

Announcement to Extend the Deadline relating to Review of Draft RAIOs

This is with regards to the on-going public consultation on the Review of Reference Access and Interconnection Offers (RAIOs). The industry has approached TRA requesting extension in the deadline for submitting comments on the Public Consultation Document. The TRA would like to announce that it agrees to allow the interested parties to provide their responses to the questions raised in the Consultation Document latest by 20th September 2016(instead of 6th September 2016) in hard and soft copy (both in PDF and Word format) to the TRA.

TRA ( SMU) achieved Second place in the Middle East of the best innovative way to improve customer service



As part of its ongoing quest to develop and improve digital performance, the TRA Spectrum Management Unit won the second place in the Middle East Telecom Customer Experience Symposium in the category of a better standard of an innovative way to improve customer service by using technology.

Eng / Yousef bin Abdullah Al Balushi - TRA Executive Vice President for Spectrum Management commented that "this award comes in line with the Sultanate’s e-government policy to enhance digital environment which reinforce the transformation to provide e-services."
