TRA NUMBER AUCTIONING SYSTEM
TRA developed, and launched in 2018 an
auctioning system of special (Diamond and Gold) numbers in coordination with
the licensees. The auctioning was conducted through the websites of telecom
licensees. Press releases were published to invite those interested in
registering for the auction to follow the updates by the licensees on the date
of first online auction for special numbers (Diamond and Gold). TRA supervised
the implementation of the auction process by these telecom companies.
The revenue of the number auctions will
be allocated to charitable organizations approved by the Ministry of Social
Development in the Sultanate, as stipulated by Article 16 of the
Telecommunications Regulatory Act and its executive regulations (49), which
stipulates that ‘the authority shall determine and collect the allocation
charge for special numbers.
With regard to auctioning process, this
is regulated by the recently issued regulation organizing the allocation of
telecommunications numbers pursuant to Decision No 1/2018, under which the
Diamond and Gold numbers are auctioned as per the conditions set out in this
regulation, with the objective of achieving transparency in the allocation of
telecommunication special numbers to end users.
