Enhancing Child Protection in the Digital Environment: TRA Publishes Public Consultation on Regulating Children’s Use of Social Media Platforms
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has published a public consultation on regulating children’s use of social media platforms. It aims to gather stakeholder views on key regulatory, legal, and technical challenges related to protecting children online. This aligns with growing international efforts to introduce stricter rules on children’s access to social media and to identify effective, balanced protection measures.
The consultation focuses on several key areas, most notably the legal and regulatory challenges related to child protection. It also explores technical solutions for age verification and limiting minors’ access to inappropriate content, alongside mechanisms to support clear and enforceable regulatory frameworks.
The Authority emphasizes the importance of active participation from concerned entities and the public through the designated consultation platform. It welcomes feedback and suggestions that contribute to enhancing the quality of regulatory outcomes in line with international best practices.
